The activity of "top space scientists face to face" was successfully held in the hall of SAST, Block G-240, south campus, on June 6, 2014. It was the third academic lecture of the space science serial provided by the school. Shuai Ping, research fellow and technology chief of Hsue-Shen Tsien Lab, gave an excellent scientific lecture on the topic of “Next Generation Pulsar Navigation Technology: from the View of Satellite Navigation”. All faculty staffs of SAST, as well as the undergraduate and bachelor students have attended this lecture. Prof. Li Xiaoping, chief executive director of SAST, presented the warm welcome for the coming of Mr. Shuai Ping, and introduced his main research methodology and research achievements. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Liu Yanming, vice-president of SAST. The picture below shows live of this lecture.

In this lecture, Mr. Shuai started from the basic concept of navigation system. He pointed out the characteristic of “cross generation” of the satellite navigation system, as well as its development directions. Mr. Shuai has also illustrated five key technologies for X-ray pulsar navigation and the system design methodology. He addressed that the autonomous navigation was the development direction of the satellite navigation system of the third generation. Particularly, X-ray pulsar navigation is an important mark and a commanding point in the revolution of aerospace technologies. His interesting and passionate presentation have deeply attracted each audience in the hall. Afterwards, Mr. Shuai broadcasted his self-directed science education film called “Pulsar Navigation”, which led the atmosphere to a climax. This three hour lecture is short but really enlightening. Audiences of this lecture were highly interested in the novel ideas and the research direction of Prof. Iess. Students asked quite a lot of questions and discussed interactively with the professor. Finally, the lecture ended in the friendly and warm atmosphere. The picture below shows the pose for a group photo of this activity.

This lecture has enhanced the academic exchanges of the Joint Lab and international renowned universities. It also plays a very important role in expanding our research directions. In addition, the two peers have agreed in taking a further step in research cooperation and talent cultivation. Specific and effective measures are proposed during the talks.
